DSC_0411If you are over 40, you may be looking for a self-defense system or looking to get in shape, but are daunted by joining a “fight gym” where you may get injured. We understand that not everyone wants to compete and that as a beginner age plays a factor when facing someone younger. This class is perfect if you would love to embrace the benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu without worrying about the risks of grappling with an overly aggressive training partner.

As a martial art, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides a fantastic workout and will strengthen your body as well as benefit your cardiovascular system. The techniques are intended to use your entire body to overcome a single portion of your opponent’s body which translates into a full body workout. But unlike most fitness regimens, practicing BJJ is fun and extremely stimulating to your mind. There is so much strategy involved that Jiu-Jitsu matches are commonly referred to as “Human Chess Matches” where each technique can set up the finish on your opponent.

There are risks involved in any physical activity, so it is recommended that if you have a pre-existing medical condition, you consult with a doctor first, but the class activity level will be paced based on what you are able to accomplish. You will get pushed, yes, but don’t avoid the class if you are out of shape. This is a great way to get back to a healthy lifestyle.
