Inter-Gym Sparring Day
February 22, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pmFree
This February 22nd, we will be hosting a sparring day at our facility in Beaufort SC that we hope you can attend. Whether you would just like to spectate the event or would like to participate in the sparring rounds, we would love to have you visit!
The event will begin on Saturday, February 22nd at 11am and will last throughout the afternoon. Each martial artist that is participating in the sparring rounds will be registered and weighed in by 11am and matches will begin immediately following that time.
As a fully mixed martial arts gym, we will have sparring in 6 categories which will take place simultaneously. The styles represented will be Boxing, Muay Thai, Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Combat Jiu-Jitsu, and No-Gi Submission Grappling. If you are registering, you can register for multiple styles.
Those registered for sparring will be matched with others in the same category with the same weight and grouped (as close as possible) with similar levels of experience. Since there will be roughly 4-6 matches going at a time, there will be opportunities for your coach to instruct you during your sparring sessions. Beaufort MMA staff will be monitoring the matches to make sure that each martial artist is staying within the parameters of the rules. Rules for each of the styles will be posted after the registration form below.
This is not a competition! There will be no trophies or medals and nothing will go on a sanctioned record of any kind. Your reward for participating is a quality experience and a chance to meet other martial artists that you may become good friends with (or possible rivals).
This is a completely free event! Anyone who would like to attend and spectate are welcome. We will be selling drinks and refreshments and will offer some seating, but you are welcome to bring your own chairs if needed.
We feel that the Southeast has some of the best teams in the country and we look forward to seeing what your team can do!

You may not wear any jewelry or piercings, and your body and clothing must be clean and nails clipped before you may have a match. (We have a shower on the premises).
We will just follow IBJJF rules. No knee reaping or twisting leg locks, just straight ankle locks for wihte and blue belts. Purple and above can include knee bars and toe holds. No slams and no striking. You can grab the gi other than the inside of your opponents sleeves or pants. The match time limits will be 4 minutes for white and blue belts, or 6 minutes for purple through black belts.
No-Gi Submission Grappling
These rules and times will be similar to the BJJ rules. The main difference is that intermediate or advanced students (who have been training about 2 years or more) can do twisting leg locks and reap the knee as needed. No striking, slamming or grabbing the clothing, however.
Identical rules to No-Gi Grappling, but the students can strike with open hands on the ground. No elbows, no knuckles and keep it friendly. We do not want to see broken noses, cuts, or concussions at this event. A Beaufort MMA staff member may stop the match if it is getting too aggressive.
Mixed Martial Arts
The sparring will be based on SC amateur MMA rules, so unified mma rules with no elbow strikes and no knees to the head. Each match will be three 3 minute rounds with a 1 minute break between rounds. You may strike to the head of a downed opponent, but please exercise safety for yourself and your partner. We want everyone to experience a good training session, but no injuries or concussions. A Beaufort MMA staff member will act as “referree” and a match may be stopped in the opponents are getting too aggressive.
These matches will be based on Muay Thai Rules. Each match will be three 2 minute rounds with a 1 minute break between rounds. Sweeps and clich are permitted, but no elbow strikes or knee strikes to the head. You may catch a kick, but can only take one step before sweeping or striking then must release the leg. You do not need to release the clinch. You must wear shin guards and gloves in addition to a cup or moutpiece. Headgear is not required, but you can wear it if you prefer. Please spar with your opponent’s safety in mind.
All boxing rounds will be based on USA Boxing rules. Punches only and you must hit with the knuckles. No strikes to the back of the head or spine and you must break when asked to by the Beaufort MMA Staff member referreeing the match. You are required to wear headgear, mouthpieces, wraps, a cup or no-foul protector and regulation size gloves 12oz-16oz. Each match will consist of three 2 minute rounds with a 1 minute break between rounds. If you would like to tape your hands, you may, but the official will need to sign off on them prior to putting on your gloves.
