Muay Thai, or Thai Boxing/Kickboxing, is a centuries-old combat sport and the cultural martial art of Thailand. Trained in the “art of eight limbs,” a Muay Thai fighter is able to use eight points of contact – fists, elbows, knees, and feet – to devastate his opponent.

Muay Thai originated as a form of hand-to-hand military combat used by migratory tribes in Southeast Asia, chiefly the Siamese (Thai). In this combat style, the fighter uses his body the way a warrior uses a weapon: fists move like swords, elbows like maces, and knees like axes, and, hardened through training, shins protect like armor. Beloved as a competitive sport by Thai kings, modern Muay Thai was popularized in the 19th century and standardized in the early 20th century; today, it is a cultural institution in Thailand, with Muay Thai training camps all over the country. Outside of Thailand, Muay Thai is recognized as a devastatingly efficient fight style and is the stand-up style of choice of many MMA fighters.
