Lowcountry Gi / No-Gi BJJ Tournament
May 21, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
$30.00This May, join Beaufort MMA for an in-school grappling tournament for youth and adults. The tournament is a great opportunity for local kids and adults to prepare for larger tournaments without having to travel long distance or pay high competition fees.
For children, the competition will be point based with position-only grappling for novice youth students and submission grappling for more experienced children. As for teens and adults, the matches will be submission only and the rules will be a slightly modified EBI (Eddie Bravo Invitational) rule set which you can read more about within the rules section.
Each competitor will weigh in the day of the event and compete in their weight class and experience level. Since the tournament is an in school tournament, the focus is on experience, so if no opponents are available in your weight class or experience division, you may be asked to compete in a catch weight division. The tournament is single elimination, but anyone who pays to compete will be guaranteed at least 2 matches total.
The cost for the competition is $30 if you pre-register and $40 at the door. This fee includes entry into both gi and no-gi divisions. Each competitor may compete up a weight class in gi and no-gi for an additional challenge, even if they have matches in their actual bracket. Due to time limitations, you may only compete in maximum of 2 no-gi and 2 gi divisions (not including Absolute).
Absolute divisions will be available as well for Teens, Women, and Men in both gi and No-gi. There is an additional fee required to compete in the absolute division, but the winner of each absolute division will win a prize. The Men’s No-Gi Absolute and Women’s No-Gi Absolute cost an additional $50 where the winner takes all. Absolute Gi champions and teen absolute champions will win different prizes.
We will also be hosting a BJJ seminar the following day on May 22nd with Black Belt instructor Justin Flood. Anyone who competes can attend the seminar for $20 while those who are just looking to attend the seminar will pay $25.
